Introducing the Eldercare Transparency Act

Every family wants the same thing, to know their loved one is safe, cared for, and treated with dignity. But too often, the eldercare system in New York hides behind a wall of confusion and secrecy. Media is full of advertisements exalting the plethora of senior care options and the amazing services available. But nestled besides the curated advertisements and glowing testimonials of legitimate eldercare providers are illegal, unlicensed and uninsured facilities and in-home care agencies. The problem? you can’t tell the difference between the two.

The Eldercare Transparency Act (ETA) was created to end the confusion. Our mission is simple: force every eldercare provider in New York to disclose their licensing type and number on all advertising and marketing materials and hold advertisers responsible if they don’t verify license status before they print an advertorial or an advertisement.

Through legislation, public education, and legal action, we are demanding transparency and accountability in eldercare. Our blog will be a resource for families, offering practical guides, checklists, and investigative reporting. We will also highlight ways to get involved in pushing this movement forward.

Because no one should have to gamble with the safety of their loved ones and NYers deserve transparency.

Follow along every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as we publish new guides and updates. Tune in to the Licensed to Care podcast every Wednesday. Participate in our advocacy activities. Together, we can build a safer future for New York families.
